We had a Eucharist commemorating and celebrating Martin Luther King on Friday. Started outside the chapel and processed in singing a chant about freedom while the organist beat a drum. The readings were interspersed with extracts from a letter from Birmingham Jail in place of a homily. Dr Martin Luther King gave us the homily! We all gathered round the altar which was nice to do, and had a more upbeat setting of the Sanctus than usual! It was a very moving service.
At Evening Prayer, Edwin used "Lift Every Voice and Sing" which is the title of a hymn book of African-American hymns we use here. Think there are two volumes. There was a hymn in there specifically written about Martin Luther King. "Blessed Martin, Pastor, Prophet...".
